Universal Standard

Developed by Samuel Morse and Alfred Vail in the 1830s, Morse code encodes letters as sequences of dots and dashes. It remains an official communication method in aviation and maritime emergencies (SOS = ··· −−− ···). Unlike encryption, Morse code is a public encoding — anyone who knows the standard can read it.
